Curriculum

The focus of the Team Tsunami curriculum is to prepare the young sailors to become competent sailors. Because there is no experience level required, the sailors begin their learning experience from their existing level while working with other sailors from a different skill level.

There are no set positions for any member of the team. Actually the members are required to move around the boat and perform different functions on each occasion they participate as a crew member. As the young sailors become more proficient and comfortable with each position they are encouraged to try more demanding positions.

Team Tsunami does rely on coaches for training. A head coach will direct the lessons and guest coaches are invited to work with the sailors on different areas of the boat. Practice sessions are encouraged and open to members of the Tsunami family, but parent members of the Tsunami family are not allowed to coach while Team Tsunami is racing.

Besides racing techniques the young sailors are taught the requirements necessary to maintain and operate a boat in a safe environment. Click here for the list of subjects.

The Team Tsunami sailors are registered for the Annapolis Yacht Club Wednesday Night Series. They are expected to compete regularly in this event. Other regattas are encouraged and will be added to the schedule as the team sees fit.
