The day started with a steadily building breeze: anywhere from 5-17 knots. We got hosed on the first start, OCS because BAT IV pushed us over and then felt the need to protest. We made gains upwind in the medium breeze, but it was ridiculously shifty. Downwind was sketchy, it was really blowing and our first drop was strait awful. We had 2 more solid legs and finsihed in second to last. The second start was much better, I didn't take the guy to windward of me up enough so we got pinned. We played the huge shifts upwind and held ground. We made some big gains downwind by soaking low but went to the wrong leeward gate to avoid a pile up. We lost a lot of boats upwind by choosing the wrong side but made gains again downwind. The finish was crazy with boats coming into the line from all different directions. Lots of yelling. The third race is when it got really flukey. We were way back from the starting line due to a jib problem and bad boat position, but the guys who were starting on straboard couldn't make the pin so we tacked and had a solid upwind leg, almost broaching in a 20+ knot puff. It was super puffy and super shifty. We cranked downwind by the second upwind leg we went to the wrong side and found ourselves in a hole. We stuck it out downwind and finished the day beating some good people, jammin to "Rock you like a Hurricane" and having a good time. It was a small taste of the insanity that will be NAs
