Last night was fun and interesting from the skippers perspective. We started out in a great position fighting for the boat at the start. Where we started the wind was from coming from the towers at about 10-12. We started with two boats to leward and the rest above us. We started out from the boat in a beam reach, unfortunately without the skinnaker, but with the lack of weight it turned out to not be so bad. We had Pete on the main working very hard to keep the boat flat. We went around the first mark in a very close third. We manages to not owe anyone room and were able to pinch off the boat just to windward. We were coming up to the windward mark realizing the spinnaker was set on the in correcrt side for the set we needed to make. Quick thinking and moving we were able to switch the kite and hoist it with minimal problems. We were making it downwind just fine and the breeze didnt go in our favor so we had to jibe for the leward mark. unfortunately that spinnaker sheet was run incorrectly and coach pete was the new trimmer. Hats off to him! he had to stand in the back of the boat and hold the sheet without the leverage of a winch. We were coming into the mark with room on everyone and calling for it. We went to jibe realizing we didnt have as much room as we needed. We managed to get the spinnaker wrapped around the forestay and had to take it down and back up. when we got it back up, it was about timr to take it back down. We lost about 5 boats in this, and manages to gain back something like 3. Coming into the finish was fun because we were flying the spinnaker into the finish where we started the engine and managed to stop just in time before the bridge. Over all it was a good night for sailboat racing.
